If you have any experience with the software to automatically connect a computer to a cable modem via a wireless network, you may have seen it at some point. Nowadays there are applications that do have a similar purpose, but they lack the real potential Virtual Access Point has.
You are basically allowed to set up a connection of a wired connection via the available wireless enabled hardware installed on your computer. This of course means that the connection is limited and can cause interference for other wireless devices since the computer basically is used as a hotspot. You will be able to use the service on your business or personal computer with a supported wireless NIC.
This means that the installation process will simply go through the process of configuring the application with your favorite web browser and then online to continue. There are various options available for customizing the software, but the interface is rather simple. Since it is a software that actually costs money, there are some added features, but the most important one is that you can set the wireless Internet link to work as a bridge.
This means that you can broadcast your data from the wired connection to the available wireless capability, but you also need to have the right wireless Internet devices to see it in any case. You may not set the wireless Internet connection to static so the wireless Internet connection can interfere with the wireless devices. The actual setting up of the connection process can take a couple of minutes. If you have any problem with the wireless hotspot that is automatically set up, you can first disconnect the available wireless NIC (Network Interface Card).
The Virtual Access Point is software that gets installed on the computer and works automatically. You have to do nothing to get it working. The program needs a connection to the wireless Internet or data connection to work. The installation process just takes place from there. After you have connected the software to the Internet, you will be asked to choose a size and network name for the available wireless Internet connection.

There is no option for a DHCP server.

Then choose a username and password for the connection.

Next, you will be asked to choose a time interval of your choice to automatically connect to the Internet or the access point as it should be called. You have the possibility of choosing if the connection shall reconnect, shall automatically reconnect, or shall reconnect at a specific time.

The software was originally developed by a freelancer. At least that’s the best I could do in my quest of finding out more information. Still, this could not be the only version of the application. Looking at the first screenshots of the software (accessed on April 2006), they look very much alike. In fact, they are almost exactly the same. However, when you move to the main screen (see picture above), you can see that the following version did change slightly, but only little.
The first thing you will notice about the software is its under construction feel. The login screen is all black with a green background and some black text. We wish there was something to welcome the user. But still, the text clearly says that you can access the software. There’s a very simple menu bar on the left, letting you access the various settings of the software. You also have to leave this menu and go to the settings for the software to access the so-called “all programs,” as they named it. See picture above.
The “all programs” is the first application you can access. There is not a lot to see here, simply a list of “Programs,” with a small cursor. You can click on one of those programs to start it. As you can see in the picture above, Virtual Access Point is not only a web browser, it can also function as one. As a matter of fact, this is what it does best. It connects you to the Internet via the wired connection of your computer or laptop and then acts as a network access point to stream all the data that comes and goes through the Internet to your own computer.
When you first start Virtual Access Point, the program will begin connecting you to the Internet. Once the process is done, the program will show a small line in the menu bar. This is so small that you might not notice it (see picture above). But, it makes a big difference. You will notice that you are connected to the Internet. You can now surf, check your email, chat and watch videos. You can even download things. In fact, if you try to access a file directly, your computer will download it directly (see picture below).
In order to do that, you just need to have another software on your computer called Limewire. This is not a problem. In fact, that is why you have the program in the first place, you can download Limewire from the Internet. Just go to a free download website

Virtual Access Point claims to turn a wired Internet connection into a wireless
access point. It does this by using the capabilities built into your computer and then
broadcasts this connection with your computer instead of using a wireless network
card.
This software will display a small icon on your desktop, which makes it obvious to
all your neighbours that you are sharing the Internet connection with them. If you
use this software you will not need to worry that someone else will steal your
connection, since it looks like you are the only one who has a connection.

Installation and User Interface:
Virtual Access Point will install on any windows system that meets it’s
requirements. The installation will usually take a couple of minutes and an icon will be
added to the system tray which is a good way to keep track of the program without
having to open it directly in the Windows program.

If you wish to be able to turn Virtual Access Point on and off without
having to open the program, the program has an application icon which can be found on
your desktop and system tray.

The program has a simple interface,
which shows which of your computers are connected to which connection.
Each computer will show up as a wireless network and the connection can be
entered manually or automatically on each computer. It is a very easy to use
application, which will also connect you to the Internet at high speeds when in
connection mode.

The program also has an option to scan for wireless networks, which will be
usable by other computers. This is a nice feature as you do not always have to
be wired to be able to share a connection.
