Converting string to a number in Java

I am trying to convert a string of a float value into a number in Java. The reason I need to do this is that I have a number in my code which needs to be converted to a string for my logger and I am unable to do this conversion in the console.
I was able to do this with Java but it doesn’t work in the console because I get errors saying the conversion is not valid.
Here is my code:
int readSV = (int) Double.parseDouble(inpSV);

Where inpSV is the variable which holds my string. I believe this is due to the cast. If I remove the cast it doesn’t give me any errors. If I then print the value of readSV I will get NaN.
Any way to fix this?


The problem is that Float.parseFloat() (which is what Double.parseDouble() was returning) throws an exception if it can’t interpret your string as a number. This results in a Double being returned. You can see this if you change your code to:
int readSV = (int) Float.parseFloat(inpSV);

and then print out readSV to see what’s actually happening.
