It’s fair to say that the CompTIA A+ exams do not include a separate Photoshop section. If you feel a little confident about the main tool and the overall operating environment, you will be fine when you take the exams.

One of the greatest things about the Photoshop CS6 tool is that it’s a lot like the previous version, Adobe Creative Suite 5. _CS5_ works fine in Photoshop.

If you’re the user who craves something new, you may find yourself reaching for Photoshop CS6, which adds layer styles — that is, the ability to specify which layer properties can be shown — and more. It also adds some powerful digital art tools that enable you to create multiple layers and resize, distort, and warp individual layers with accuracy. Photoshop CS6 has a revamped, more user-friendly interface (see Figure 3-7), and some significant changes have been made to the program’s underlying architecture to make it faster.

While the built-in features of Photoshop are a big draw for beginners, the most important feature is the built-in RAW converter. Some digital cameras can directly save images in RAW format, and Photoshop elements saves in it. Because RAW images are a compressed file, processing is slower than with JPEGs.

The Photoshop team boasts that it would be nice if everything worked. Sure, that can be a daunting task for digital artists, but it’s also their job to make things easier for you, and they have.

With every release, the team makes some kind of improvement to their software, whether that’s refining existing features or adding new ones, or both. Here are some of the most interesting things they’ve added.

Creating an Action

Adobe introduced actions with Photoshop CS3, meaning you could automate the steps needed to complete a task. That same functionality is now built-in with Photoshop CC.

You can create actions to perform actions using tools, features, or even the menu bar. You can load actions into Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Photoshop Elements.

You can also use scripting with Photoshop CS4, but actions are the most common use case.

Adobe Photoshop lets you create something called a “helper file”, a package file that contains “helper scripts” that point to other files. It’s a way to edit files that are already downloaded, instead of downloading them to edit.

Elements from 2016 added compositing features, but it took some time for Apple to take note. They’ve brought most of them to Photoshop. You can now use new blend modes, masking, resizing, and drawing tools to make more dynamic images. There are also 16 kinds of radiance settings, all designed to deliver the most natural-looking photos.

In the 3rd season of “Sherlock,” Sherlock is still very much focused on the art of deduction while his partner Watson is struggling with trauma due to a very personal and cruel murder that happened in the first season. He is in the US, and he has to help a former colleague (with benefits) find out who killed his former lover in New York.

On reading that, my first thought was that it was referring to the now infamous rape case in which the victim was saying it was possible that her attacker had raped others as well as her. I assumed the crime was committed on a flight – she couldn’t identify him but the lack of finding any evidence in the months and months following the attack, prompted her to say it could have been him. (I was one of those who thought the attacker was a tool – but only in the sense that he was capable of choosing so many innocent women).

My second thought was that the entire article was a parody. I thought it was made by an author with an English degree and not a PhD in Criminology or Psychology. So how can they believe that so many victims must be ignorant and chose not to report?

Brushes
Brushes are created using the brush tool and can be used to paint, draw, erase, paint, or retouch images. If the stroke tool (Paintbrush) is selected, it will act like a brush. You can paint/draw directly on an image, with a brush, or with your fingers. The Stroke panel provides information about strokes that have been made. This includes the alpha value and location of the stroke on the image, how many times a stroke has been created, the brush’s thickness, and the brush’s opacity.

The type of brush you choose depends on what you need it to do. There are different types of brushes. For example, Round brushes are good for drawing circles and rounded rectangles. Brushing with a Brush from the toolbox is similar to pressing the Erase tool in your browser. You can select which parts of an image to paint using this tool. By default, the brush remains active once it is selected. You can paint over already painted areas, which is very convenient for fixing errors. Brushes can also be combined with many different options to get new and specific tools. Some of the most common combinations include:

Linear Gradient
This is a simple linear gradient. It can be used to paint horizontal or vertical lines on an image.

Radial Gradient
This is a radial gradient. It is often used to paint reflections or clouds in a photo.

Spiral Brush
This is a brush that creates a spiral, making it useful for drawing flowers and leaves.

Scissors Brush
This brush erases some areas of the image, the same way you would erase a piece of paper.

Watercolor Brush
This brush is good for painting watercolors.

Pencil Brush
This brush creates soft strokes by using a grid as reference. The number of lines you can create depends on the brush’s setting.

Dotted Brush
This brush, also called a Dots brush, is good for drawing “dots” of color.

Brush Libraries
Brushes are not the only way to save a brush type. You can also save brushes using brushes libraries. A brush library is a special collection of brushes that are created just for this collection of brushes. You can make a brush library from a combination of different brushes, even from brushes from other libraries. Brush libraries are very convenient as they can contain a lot of brushes.
